چکیده

Many interesting divergence measures between conjugate ensembles of nonequilibrium trajectories can be experimentally determined from the work distribution of the process. Herein, we review the statistical and physical significance of several of these measures, in particular the relative entropy (dissipation), Jeffreys divergence (hysteresis), Jensen–Shannon divergence (timeasymmetry), Chernoff divergence (work cumulant generating function), and Rényi divergence.

Simultaneous Computation of Dynamical and Equilibrium Information Using a Weighted Ensemble of Trajectories

Equilibrium formally can be represented as an ensemble of uncoupled systems undergoing unbiased dynamics in which detailed balance is maintained. Many nonequilibrium processes can be described by suitable subsets of the equilibrium ensemble. Here, we employ the "weighted ensemble" (WE) simulation protocol [Huber and Kim, Biophys. J.1996, 70, 97-110] to generate equilibrium trajectory ensembles ...

Ensemble Formalism for Nonequilibrium Systems and an Associated Irreversible Statistical Thermodynamics

It is reviewed what can be considered as the present research trends in what regards to the construction of an ensemble formalism – Gibbs’ style – for the case of far-from-equilibrium systems. The main questions involved are presented accompanied with brief discussions. The construction of a nonequilibrium statistical operator is described and its applications commented, and, particularly, it i...

Statistical mechanical theory for steady state systems. IV. Transition probability and simulation algorithm demonstrated for heat flow.

Two microscopic transition theorems are given for the probability of nonequilibrium work performed on a subsystem of a thermal reservoir along the trajectory in phase space of the subsystem. The resultant transition probability is applied to the case of heat flow down an applied temperature gradient. A combined molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo algorithm is given for such a nonequilibrium stea...

Flux Operators of Microdynamical Quantities in a Nonequilibrium Statistical Ensemble Formalism

It is shown how the closure condition for the set of kinetic equations in Zubarev's Nonequilibrium Statistical Operator Method introduces a series of uxes of a reference set of densities. These uxes are the average values, over a Gibbs-like nonequilibrium generalized grandcanonical ensemble, of Hermitian operators for uxes de ned at the microscopic-mechanical level. The equations of evolution f...

Weighted-ensemble Brownian dynamics simulation: sampling of rare events in nonequilibrium systems.

We provide an algorithm based on weighted-ensemble (WE) methods, to accurately sample systems at steady state. Applying our method to different one- and two-dimensional models, we succeed in calculating steady-state probabilities of order 10(-300) and reproduce the Arrhenius law for rates of order 10(-280). Special attention is payed to the simulation of nonpotential systems where no detailed b...
